Travel Insurance is an insurance that protects holiday costs of a traveler against adverse events. This Insurance is taken in order to cover problems associated with traveling, generally including trip cancellation due to illness, the loss or damage of property, transit delays and other incidents. Travelers are compensated if they have to cancel or interrupt their travel, they will also be covered should they need emergency medical treatment, medical evacuation and other situations.

The main categories of travel insurance:

Medical Reasons:

Medical and Dental benefits: Reimbursement is paid for medical and emergency costs.It includes the charges incurred at hospitals, physicians and surgeons. It also includes the charges incurred for dressings, casts and prescription drugs. It covers the expenses incurred while performing a surgery as a result of loss of teeth.
Medical evacuation: If the claimant’s physician recommends an evacuation to safeguard his life, then an emergency evacuation benefit could be provided. This provides emergency transportation to either a local hospital in the event that the traveller is unable to get there by themselves or back to a hospital near the traveller’s place of residence. If family members are covered on the same policy they can return home also.

Loss or damage of personal effects:
Baggage loss:
This covers for the lost, stolen or damaged personal items. If the claimants lose their luggage or all their property, then the travel insurance company may reimburse them for their losses provided they submit the proof of their losses.
Rental Vehicle damage: This covers the travellers for damage or loss to a rental vehicle.

Death of traveller:
Air Flight accident:
This insurance covers death or dismemberment during an air flight.
Common carrier: This Covers death or dismemberment while travelling on public transport such as a plane, ferry, train bus or taxi.
Accidental death: This covers death or dismemberment at any time during trip.

Delays and cancellation
Delay: In the event of delay of a flight or a train this insurance reimburses the cost of hotel, food or clothing expenses of the traveler.
Cancellation and Interruption: A traveler is reimbursed when he cancels or interrupts the trip, because of personal illness or injury, death (of the individual or of a family member), adverse weather conditions, airline strikes and other serious causes.
